 Walking around Ancient Rome
« Thread Started on Feb 4, 2009, 6:39pm »

Go to Google Earth ... Go to Layers ...Press "+" and open Gallery ... You will notice first in the list Ancient Rome 3D ...

Activate it by clicking the box at the left ... Double and you are in Rome (but not yet the Ancient Rome) ...

On some parts of the map there are some yellowish pics of important places (it means they exist in Ancient Rome 3D layer).

Pressing on any of them (it does not matter which one), it opens a frame with info on that place or building and guidance on how to activate teh Ancient Rome 3D layer.

First press the "Load Terrain". Our days roads and building disappear and then you watch Rome of the past.

Then you may click on Ancient Rome landmarks with more than 250 landmarks and pressing on Ancient Rome Buildings you have 5000 ancient buildings of that era.

After pressing that link then under Temporary Google Earth Places some thousands ancient buildings start to be loaded (it will need sometime depending on your connection and due to the number of the buildings - 5000 3D digital buildings).

To keep them saved after you close Google Earth you have to move the Ancient Roman Landmarks and Ancient Roman Buildings under My Places (right click and Save at My Places).

This will work better with a pc with at least a processor of Dual Core 2 GHz, 3 GHz Ram and a good graphics card with at least 512 MB memory.

Have a nice walk !! :P

I have had a go at this on my PC at work.

It does take a while to load, even with a fast connection !

It would be great if they did the same for Constantinople.
